To non-brace-wearers, plain white tees seem to be a staple article of clothing in one’s wardrobe. They’re cute, versatile, and simple. They can be dressed up or dressed down. They are, put simply, quite the necessity.
However, if your experience has been anything like mine, it’s likely that trying to find the right plain white tee has led you to a journey of frustration and annoyance. If your experience hasn’t been like mine at all, I envy you. And i encourage you to share how you were able to find one 🙂
Personally, my struggle with finding the just-right plain white tee that works with brace can be condensed to a brief, yet constraining list:
- too short
- too long
- too tight
- too thin (material that is easily torn by my brace, or is too see through that it shows my brace)
While the list may not seem like much, it’s actually unbelievably constraining. Finally, I ended up delving into the guy’s section at Cotton On and found a plain white tee that worked with my brace. It was a bit long, but I found I didn’t really mind, especially because I mostly wore it tucked into loose shorts or a skirt.
If you were able to find a plain white tee that worked for you and your brace, how did you do it and where did you get it?
I would love the answer to this. I need something for a four year old who just will not tolerate it all. Thanks!
Personally, I’ve found the boy’s section to have t-shirts made of more durable material that is more agreeable to the back brace! They are still loose and light enough that they reduce the heat and are manageable to wear. Otherwise, any simple t-shirts that are made of a thick-enough material are great to wear over the brace. Wearing a camisole or a tank top (underneath the brace) that is thin and softer but protective for the skin does wonders to reduce the itchiness or skin irritation/bruising that can happen. Try to find a material that is cooler so that it doesn’t generate too much heat! With heat, the lighter the material, the better! Is it finding shirts in general that is more difficult for your child or is it comfort?
